Gender equality among the priorities of the European partnership of Morocco
The strengthening of the role of women in society is one of the most important issues in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, in general, and in EU and Morocco in particular.

The policy of gender equality set on the basis of undertaking collective action to achieve equality between women and men, to prevent all forms of discrimination and ensure the protection of woman rights.

This policy was set in the first Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference, in Istanbul, in 2006, and was emphasized in the final statement of the Foreign Ministers of the Union for the Mediterranean in Marseille in November 4, 2008.

The policy of "Strengthening the role of woman in society," was founded by the first Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial first Conference in Istanbul, in 2006. Decrees have been issued and requires the completion of concrete actions, including actions "aimed at strengthening the role of women in the political, civil, social, economic and cultural, as well as to combat discrimination.

Morocco made important steps towards achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women from access to the status of a political decision, the latest being the lifting of reservations to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and determine the share of 12 per cent for women in the elections in next June voting, as well as government programs and initiatives of civil society. In this context,

The European Union is funding a new program on gender equality and civil society, belong to the European aid, valued at 16 million euros during the period 2007 - 2010. According to a paper by the Office of the regional strategy (2007 - 2013) and the Regional Indicative Program (2007-2010) of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership. The strategy document emphasizes the importance of regional approach the promotion of equality between the sexes.
