A Study on Violence against Street Children
There are groups of children who spend most or all of their time in the street during the day or the night; they interact with in an environment which encourages all forms of delinquency. These children have been deprived of all or most of their rights whether in their families or the community. The existing services to handle the problem proved inadequate in controlling this phenomenon. The Alliance for Arab Women, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Solidarity is conducting a study on “Violence against Street Children.” The study would start in certain geographic areas and may include others later on. It will be carried by Dr. Nadia Haleem, Professor at the National Centre of Social and Criminal Studies, and board of member of the Alliance for Arab Women. The goal of the study is to reach unconventional solutions to the problem .The study will identify "the needs of these children who sleep the nights under bridges and pavements, in addition to those who frequent day-care institutions.” Data is carried on obtained through individual interviews with children and their families and through studying the social, cultural, and economic environment.
